Mississippi Police Officer Suspended Without Pay After Shooting 11-Year-Old Boy

Sgt. Greg Capers was suspended without pay after shooting 11-year-old Aderrien Murry. The Mississippi police officer was initially put on paid administrative leave during the investigation.

In late May, Sgt. Greg Capers wrongfully shot 11-year-old Aderrien Murry while responding to a domestic disturbance report at the child’s residence. Fortunately, despite the severe injuries, Aderrien was released from the hospital and is now in the process of recovering.

According to Valencia, the Mississippi police officer was initially put on paid administrative leave during an investigation following the shooting incident. The Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation and was in possession of the footage of the incident captured on police body camera.

Motion to Suspend Mississippi Police Officer

According to Santucci, on June 12, during the meeting of the Board of Aldermen in Indianola, a motion was made to suspend the Mississippi police officer without pay effective immediately. Alderman Marvin Elder stated that the motion passed 4-1.

The Mississippi police officer’s attorney, Michael Carr, responded that they are still deciding whether to appeal the motion. This is because they were apparently not made aware of the meeting and were not give the opportunity to speak their side.
