When applying for SNAP, the household size is defined as all individuals who live together and purchase and prepare meals together, according to the Department of Health and Human Services.
The program undergoes slight adjustments each year, including changes to income limits based on family size.
As of October 1, 2022, the new income limits based on household size for the fiscal year 2023 are in effect and can be found on the DHS webpage.
Below are the highest allocations for the fiscal year 2023, which have seen an increase compared to 2022, determined by the size of the household for the 48 contiguous states and D.C.:
- One-person: $281
- Two-person: $516
- Three-person: $740
- Four-person: $939
- Five-person: $1,116
- Six-person: $1,339
- Seven-person: $1,480
- Eight-person: $1,691
- Every additional person: $211

2023 Food Stamps
It’s important to note that Alaska and Hawaii have different measurements than the aforementioned list.
For Alaska, the allotment starts at $351 for one person and goes up to $3,274, with an additional $409 for each person over eight.
In Hawaii, the allotment starts at $538 for one person and goes up to $3,230, with an additional $404 for each person over eight.
Typically, a SNAP recipient’s household income must meet the gross income limit, which is at or below 130% of the poverty line.
