A 14-year-old boy in South Carolina was shot and killed by a gas station convenience store owner. The owner was charged by police with murder.
14-Year-Old Boy Shot and Killed
The 14-year-old boy was identified as Cyrus Carmack-Belton. While the owner is Rick Chow, a 58-year-old.
Police officials charged Rick Chow with murder for allegedly killing Cyrus Carmack-Belton. The 14-year-old boy Cyrus has been wrongly accused by Chow of shoplifting.
Chow thought Cyrus had taken four bottles of water at the Xpress Mart Shell station in Columbia after a verbal confrontation. Chow and his son ran after Cyrus and Chow was armed.
Chow had shot the 14-year-old boy in the back. The shot had caused significant damage to Cyrus’s heart and has suffered hemorrhage.
Surveillance videos have been reviewed. Chow was charged after the autopsy revealed that the 14-year-old boy was shot in the back.
14-Year-Old Boy Cyrus Killing Sparked Outrage!
Outrage has sparked in the community after the shooting. Rumors have spread that the 14-year-old boy was kneeling or lying on the ground or had his hands up before he was shot, which is believed to be not true.
The gun used for killing Cyrus was found near his body. Chow’s son said that the 14-year-old boy had a gun but investigations reveal that there was no indication that the teen do such a thing.
Rick Chow was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center after his arrest. As Chow appeared in court on Tuesday, CBS News confirmed that the magistrate in the center could not set a bond for Chow under South Carolina law.
