Veterans Affairs Canada Provides More Financial Assistance to Women Members

The minister of Veterans Affairs Canada announced a disbursement worth $6 million during a recent press conference. Along with Da Costa’s study and Therrien’s organization, the health of the women in Canada are expected to be promoted better.

The Department of National Defense (DND) of Canada states that as of 2022, more than 16% of the members of the Canadian Armed Forces were women. These numbers reportedly include both the regular force members and the reserves.

Unfortunately, according to Carpenter, Associate Professor Dr. Deborah Da Costa states that among the veterans, women also represent 30% of those who are younger and more vulnerable. This means that Da Costa emphasizes on how women are more at risk of depression, PTSD, and homelessness.

More Assistance from Veterans Affairs Canada

An article in Yahoo Finance states that because of this result, Da Costa planned to launch a study across Canada that is expected to last for three years. Da Costa added that she hopes to determine the factors that are unique to Canadian women to have their health promoted better.

Reportedly, Da Costa’s team have received a grant worth $250,000 from the federal government for the study. On May 24, during a press conference, Veterans Affairs Minister Lawrence MacAulay also announced a disbursement worth $6 million.

Furthermore, Marie-Pier Therrien, spokesperson of Old Brewery Mission, also stated that her organization received $45,000. The funds are reportedly intended for the organization’s Sentinel program for veterans that was launched in 2017.
