The Jewish Family Service, a non-profit organization in California, has collaborated with the city of San Diego to establish the Recovery Action Fund for Tomorrow (RAFT) program. The organization highlighted that the payments under the RAFT program will be distributed to 2,250 impoverished seniors and families who have been negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Coakley, the RAFT program is partially funded by the U.S. President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan Act with $10 million. Reportedly, the applications have started last May 8, but have already ended last May 21.

Who will qualify for the RAFT program?

According to Blake, to be able to qualify for the RAFT program, an individual must show proof of their residency in San Diego, California. In addition, an individual may be eligible if they are taking care of a disabled adult or a senior aged at least 55 years old. Individuals who have at least one child aged below 18 years old may also qualify.

Specific income limits also apply to be able to qualify for the RAFT program. This means that a household income must be at or less than 200% of the federal poverty level. A household with one member must earn below $29,160, while a household with four must earn below $60,000.

Nonetheless, recipients of the payments under the RAFT program will be randomly chosen by the Jewish Family Service through a lottery system. Once selected, the recipient will be given the payments in two batches. Reportedly, the first batch will be distributed in June, while the second will be in August.
