In a heart-wrenching incident, a Kansas woman and her daughter have lost their lives in what authorities are calling a murder-suicide carried out by the mother’s husband.
Kansas Woman and Her Daughter Was Found Dead
The incident happened in Kansas City, resulting in the deaths of Kansas woman Penny Smith, 50, and Kristy C. Thow, 29, who succumbed to their injuries at a local hospital.
The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department released multiple press releases regarding the “domestic shooting” that occurred at Smith’s residence shortly before 11 p.m. on May 18.
The incident also left an unidentified third victim injured, who received treatment at a nearby hospital and has since been released, People reported.
Christopher Smith, Penny Smith’s 51-year-old husband, was found deceased at the scene with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, indicating a tragic murder-suicide.
Community Shows Support for Kansas Woman
The community has rallied together to support the surviving family members of the Kansas woman, and a GoFundMe page has been established to raise funds for Thow’s surviving daughter’s college education and provide assistance to other remaining family members.
The page, created by Kristy’s aunt, describes her as a dedicated single mother who not only raised her own daughter, Camilla but also played a vital role in raising her sister’s children.
The fundraiser speaks of Kristy’s compassionate nature, vibrant spirit, and selfless act of protecting her sister and mother from what is described as a “crazed domestic abuser.”
The fundraiser further reveals that Kristy leaves behind two other daughters and three grandchildren, amplifying the magnitude of the devastating loss suffered by the family.
The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department continues its investigation into the tragic incident, seeking to uncover more details surrounding the events leading to the fatal outcome.
