Lamont Hunter has a new trial ordered after spending more than a decade and a half on Ohio’s death row in connection with killing his ex-girlfriend’s son.

A New Trial Order For Lamont Hunter

54-year-old Lamont Hunter, was convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend’s son Trustin Blue who authorities said was sexually assaulted leading Hunter to be charged with aggravated murder, and child endangering, including rape. According to authorities, the cause of death of the child was from blunt impact and shaking injuries to his head.

ABC News reported that Hunter claimed before that he was doing laundry in the basement when the boy fell down the stairs and landed on the concrete floor. Moreover, based on previously given evidence from the boy’s mother which she had not provided before, the Prosecutors decided to have a  new trial after the deputy coroner who initially ruled the boy’s death a homicide changed that opinion two years ago after reviewing those new evidence.

According to the mother, the cause of death was undetermined and she also said injuries she had attributed to sexual assault were accidentally inflicted at the hospital.

A Hearing Is Set To Be Done On Friday

The hearing is set for Friday, it is a decision to be made whether Hunter could be freed on bond while waiting for his new trial that ended with no judgment after prosecutors sought a delay in the proceedings. Prosecutors said the county coroner’s office is reevaluating the whole Lamont Hunter murder case, it also includes more than 700 pages of documents from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

Al Gerhardstein the Defense attorney of Lamont Hunter expressed his insights to the reporters outside the courtroom that such work should have been done 16 years ago. Gerhardstein expressed his positivity that his client would be “out on bond by the end of the month.”

Ap News reports that it was announced at the hearing that prosecutors have proposed Hunter a plea deal that would show to his clearance with a sentence for the time he already has spent in prison.
