Caregivers are known for taking extra care of those who are in need but New Mexico’s top prosecutor said that caregivers tortured a 38-year-old developmentally disabled woman before her death.
Caregivers Tortured A Disabled Woman And Died
New Mexico’s top prosecutor describes a 38-year-old developmentally disabled woman that leads to her death by the caregivers who she said were paid thousands of dollars a month through a special program meant to offer an alternative to institutional care.
AP News reported that Attorney General Raúl Torrez said in a news conference ON Thursday that the disabled woman endured some major injuries that leads to her death and was found in the back of a van as the caregivers tried to take her to Mexico so her wounds could be treated.
Torrez said that the caregiver abused and neglect the woman and it was the worse case he have witnessed as a prosecutor.

The 3 Caregivers Was Arrested
On Wednesday, the 3 suspects were arrested and charged with abuse and neglect following an investigation that began with the stop at the U.S.-Mexico border in late February.
The case spurred a statewide review of New Mexico’s entire developmentally disabled waiver system. Social workers spent weeks conducting individual wellness checks on thousands of developmentally disabled people who receive care through the federally-funded waiver program.
The state Health Department has withdrawn contracts with four providers located in the Albuquerque area because there are several allegations of possible abuse and neglect were turned up.
Angelita Rene Chacon, 52, and Patricia Hurtado, 42, both of Rio Rancho are facing an affidavit filed by the Attorney General’s Office detailing the abuse that resulted in the charges filed on Wednesday. Both will are going to face abuse or neglect of a resident resulting in death, false imprisonment, and conspiracy to commit false imprisonment.
Meanwhile, Luz Scott, 53, from Clovis, an acquaintance of the women, has been charged with false imprisonment and conspiracy to commit false imprisonment.
