A Guaranteed Income Pilot program in the city of Minneapolis in Minnesota will distribute its next round of monthly payments in 9 days. The monthly payments have started being issued in June 2022 and are expected to continue through June 2024. Unfortunately, only a total of 200 households were chosen to be given the monthly payments worth $500.

According to Collins, the project manager for the Guaranteed Income Pilot program states that the monthly payments are distributed on the 20th of every month. Furthermore, the program is being assessed by the Federal Reserve of the city of Minneapolis.

Who will qualify for the Guaranteed Income Pilot program?

According to Notheis, to be able to qualify for the Guaranteed Income Pilot program, an individual must have been 18 years old by January 1, 2022. In addition, they must have resided in one of the zip codes listed by the program.

An individual must have also earned an annual income at or below 0% of the area median income for the city of Minneapolis. Furthermore, they must have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This means that the individual must have lost their job and access to child care or incurred higher health expenses.

Reports say the demographics of the Guaranteed Income Pilot program are mostly Black, people of color, or indigenous who are at 80.5% of the recipients. The remaining 19.5% of the recipients are either white or non-Hispanic. Furthermore, 69% of the recipients are women, while 42.5% are between the ages of 30 and 39.
