A recent NYC subway news reveals that Daniel Penny’s supporters have raised $1.8 million to cover the costs of his legal defense. Reports say Penny was charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of Jordan Neely.
A recent NYC subway news reveals that Raiser & Kenniff P.C., the lawyers for Daniel Penny, 24, posted a fundraiser on GiveSendGo, a Christian fundraising site. As of the evening of May 14, the fundraiser for the costs of Penny’s legal defense reportedly exceeded $1.8 million.According to Vacchiano, the description of the fundraiser states that Penny’s legal fees that will be covered by the funds raised include any civil lawsuits that may happen in the future. Nonetheless, any excess funds will reportedly be donated to a mental health advocacy program in New York.

According to Mueller, one of Penny’s high-profile supporters is Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida. Reportedly, DeSantis posted on Twitter where he encouraged his followers to donate to the fundraiser. Furthermore, Penny’s lawyers upheld that their client only intervened to protect the other train passengers.
Nonetheless, the lawyers of Neely’s family argued and called the defendant’s statements a “character assassination”. Reports say Penny faced charges of second-degree manslaughter in connection with the death of Jordan Neely, a homeless Black man, on a subway train in New York last May 1. Penny is scheduled back to court in July and if convicted, will face a maximum of 15 years in jail.
