Burger King
According to Lawley, two fast food franchises of Burger King, in Toms King and Meridian Restaurants Unlimited, have announced their bankruptcy. To date, Meridian has already shut down 27 stores in the states of Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, and Utah. Furthermore, another 80 stores are also on the verge of shutting down in the future.
In Toms King, 82 buyers have already been found for the 90 stores that have been declared bankrupt last March. This means that the remaining 8 stores with no buyers are now on the verge of shutting down. In Michigan, 26 restaurants have already shut down after the EYM King franchise was sued for not paying royalties. This 2023, Burger King is looking to shut down other 400 stores that have been underperforming.

Hardee’s
According to Maze, almost 108 stores are on the verge of shutting down after the owner of the fast food franchises for Hardee’s have filed for bankruptcy protection last week. The Hardee’s stores in the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, South Carolina, and Wyoming are reportedly operated by the Summit Restaurant Holdings.
To salvage the stores, Summit and CKE Restaurants, its parent group, are reportedly looking to find buyers to date. Reports say Summit had already closed 39 stores in an attempt to prevent financial problems. Fortunately, more than 5,000 Hardee’s stores are owned by other fast food franchises which have not been affected by the bankruptcy filing.
