On May 6, at around 7:30 p.m., a shooting incident happened at a Mississippi restaurant as the Cinco de Mayo celebrations on Cherokee Street in Ocean Springs downtown was winding down. Authorities say a gunshot grazed a man’s upper thigh, while a woman had been shot in her leg. Fortunately, both victims were transported to a hospital nearby and are in stable condition.

According to Schneider, an investigation revealed that the victims were witnessing some men argue when one of the suspects began brandishing a handgun. As the argument escalated, a woman allegedly fired a gunshot. Eventually, the woman was identified as Amber Booker, 33, and was arrested by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department for an investigation. Authorities released photos of the shooting suspects at the Mississippi restaurant where Booker was seen with a man.

According to Wehner, investigators were looking to press charges of two counts each of armed criminal action and first-degree assault against Booker. However, authorities reported that Booker is no longer in their custody because the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office is refusing to press charges.

The office of Attorney Kim Gardner reportedly refused because of the lack of evidence for every count that was to be charged. In addition, the prosecutor’s office also stated that the victims refused to participate in the investigations as well.
