Tory Lanez Trial Denied

Tory Lanez’s lawyers have appealed for a new trial for Tory Lanez’s cases but it was denied by Superior Court Judge Herriford. Herriford has rejected the lawyer’s arguments because the evidence was strongly admitted at the trial.

Daystar Peterson, also known as Tory Lanez was convicted of the following; discharging a firearm with gross negligence, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and assault with a semiautomatic firearm. Lanez could get up to 22 years in prison and will face deportation to Canada.

Lawyers of Lanez uphold that a post from his Instagram account was improperly admitted into evidence. Lanez’s lawyers said that Megan’s testimony was untrue and improper. They also claim that the DNA evidence that prosecutors used to argue Lanez fell short of industry standards.

Lanez’s lawyers prepared for an elaborative presentation but Judge Herriford did not permit any of it. Later, they filed a motion to have the jury disqualified.

Megan Pete, also known as Megan Thee Stallion has testified that the rapper fired a gun at her feet and shouted at her to dance while walking away from an SUV during the Hollywood Hills summer of 2020.

The shooting incident and Troy Lanez’s trial have sparked cultural arguments including online toxicity, gender politics in hip-hop, the protection of Black women, and the reluctance of Black victims to speak to police.

Lanez’s father denounced the verdict in December and said the system was wicked and that led to his son’s conviction which had to be wrestled in the courtroom. No sentencing has been set to date.
