Up to $14,000 Home Improvement Rebates Offered in Inflation Reduction Act

Apart from tax breaks, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) also offers two federal programs that will provide home improvement rebates to eligible homeowners. According to Picchi, these programs are the HOMES and HEEHRA which intends to help homeowners on renovations and payments for appliances that will cut utility expenses.

HOMES Rebates

According to Lewis, to be able to qualify for the home improvement rebates called HOMES, a homeowner must have had a renovation to their home since August 16, 2022. This renovation must have reduced the energy usage by 35% or more. By doing so, a homeowner is eligible to receive a HOMES rebate worth $4,000.

Fortunately, for households that earn low or average, the rebates will be doubled to $8,000. The coverage of these home improvement rebates will apply to heating, lighting, water treatment, insulation, solar panels, appliances, and windows.

HEEHRA Rebates

On the other hand, the home improvement rebates called HEEHRA will reimburse households that earn low or average for up to $14,000 in upgrades to appliances and major systems. These rebates include a discount of $840 for adding an electric heat pump dryer or replacing gas stoves and ovens with electric burners.

In addition, there will also be discounts of $1,600 for ventilation, insulation, or air sealing. For an electric heat pump water heater, there will be a discount of $1,750. For the price of electric wiring, there will be a discount of $2,500. For an upgrade of electric load service center, there will be a discount of $4,000. Lastly, for an installation of an electric heat pump, there will be a discount of $8,000.
