The deadline for tax day 2023 for most Americans is April 18, 2023. However, even though it’s still done, there are things to do to ensure that all your filing went through correctly.

4 Things Taxpayers Must Do After Tax Day 2023

The IRS suggests these 4 steps to follow after Tax Day 2023:

  • Check Your Refund Status

Where’s My Refund? tool portal can help you check your status if you are due for your refund you can also check other services available online at IRS.gov or on the IRS2Go app.

Upon checking, you will need your Social Security number or ITIN, tax filing status, and the refund amount claimed on your tax return or you can also contact their hotline at 800-829-1954.

  • Check Your Withholding

Tax Withholding Estimator on IRS.gov is where you can utilize it by checking your withholding taxes.

Another alternative is you can use results from the Estimator to complete a new Form W-4 and adjust your income tax withholding if necessary. Additonally, taxpayers who receive pension income can use the results to complete a Form W-4P and submit it to their payer.

  • Review Your Payment Options

To review your owed taxes online you can review it on your payment options online.

    • Paying your taxes owed or paying a partial payment through your Online Account or IRS Direct Pay
    • Settling by debit card, credit card, or digital wallet
    • Applying online for a payment method
  • Consider if You Need to Amend a Return

If you mistakenly made an error or forgot to enter something on your tax return you can use the Interactive Tax Assistant on IRS.gov called Should I File an Amended Return?  to help you determine your error or make other changes to the return you filed.
