The city of Cambridge in Massachusetts is expected to launch a new Guaranteed Income Pilot program to be known as “Rise Up” this spring. “Rise Up” comes from the city’s previous pilot program, the Cambridge RISE, which is known to have a huge positive impact on its recipients.According to Choe, the Cambridge RISE previously provided eligible recipients with $500 per month for 18 months. Fortunately, those terms will still apply to the new Guaranteed Income Pilot program. Yi-An Huang, the city manager, announced that the American Rescue Plan Act has already provided the city of Cambridge with $22 million to develop “Rise Up”.

Who will qualify for the new Guaranteed Income Pilot program?
According to Russo, to be able to qualify for the new Guaranteed Income Pilot program, an individual must live in the city of Cambridge and must have at least one child below the age of 21. In addition, households must earn an income that is 250% of the federal poverty level based on the family’s size.
This means that a family of two individuals must earn $49,300, while a family of three earns $62,150. On the other hand, a family of four individuals must earn $75,000, while a family of five earns $87,850. More importantly, applicants of the new Guaranteed Income Pilot program must be above the age of 18.
Reports say Cambridge will be the first city in the U.S. to provide a Guaranteed Income Pilot program where recipients will not be selected through a lottery. This means that all families who are eligible to receive the payments will be able to claim $500 per month.
