Abril was in possession of a 10 mm handgun and was wearing a body armor vest when the confrontation took place. He fired 15 to 20 rounds at the CHP officers and the MacEgans and was hit once in his left arm during the shootout.

Charges and Legal Proceedings
Eric Abril is charged with murder, aggravated kidnapping causing bodily harm, attempted murder of a peace officer, and being a convicted felon in possession of a gun. He remains in jail without bail, and his arraignment is postponed to Tuesday.
Based on the report by The Sacramento Bee, the officers fired 15 to 25 rounds, and Roseville officers shot six bullets in response to Abril’s gunfire.
