Only 28 hours after its portal opened, the Texas Rent Relief program received over 100,000 applications from the state’s residents. Due to this, the program was forced to close the applications 52 hours after the opening which is 12 days earlier than what was planned.According to Nickerson, nonetheless, the Texas Rent Relief program was able to assist 10,400 individuals in need after spending the $96 million set aside to help the renters of the state. However, the program will reportedly prioritize residents who can provide a case number for an eviction hearing. This is because Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs’ Kristina Tirloni states that the program only has a limited funding available. According to Chandler, the Texas Rent Relief program has remaining funds worth $70 million left and the financial assistance would be on an average of $6,732. Reportedly, if all needed documents and eligibility are accomplished, the program should be able to issue the payments with 14 business days.
However, Tirloni stated that there are several factors that affect the duration of application review. These factors include the landlord’s inclination to participate, the completion of their application profile, and the time when both landlord and tenant submit all needed documents.
