On April 7, during the Star Wars Celebration event in London, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy announced that a new Star Wars movie will be happening. Kennedy provides an update on the Lando series and Taika Waititi projects saying they are still in progress although the exact date as to when is not yet certain.According to Melendez, Kennedy states that in Hollywood, no project will ever be completely dead. A new Star Wars movie in the shape of the Lando series and Taika Waititi projects are reportedly good works. Kennedy says they will definitely still be done by the film production company that is home to the highly acclaimed Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises.
New Star Wars Movie in the Works
According to Burlingame, the first progress of the Lando series for Disney+ was announced last December 2020. Earlier this week, Donald Glover, who portrayed Lando in Ron Howard’s 2018 Solo: A Star Wars Story, announced that he is in discussion to play the role again. Glover reportedly told GQ, the men’s fashion magazine, that he would love to portray Lando in a new Star Wars movie.
On the other hand, on May 4, 2020, it was officially confirmed that Taika Waititi will direct a new Star Wars movie for the first time. At that time, reports say Waititi will also co-write the screenplay with 1917 Academy Award nominee Krysty Wilson-Cairns. Nonetheless, the exact dates and progress of this project are still not revealed.
