In 2022, The Local Sound Collaborative, a music and arts organization based in Rochester, New York administered the Guaranteed Income Pilot program in the state. The program was reportedly launched to distribute payments worth $200 per month to five eligible participants. Fortunately, The Local Sound Collaborative has recently expanded and will now choose another six participants.

According to Russo, this Guaranteed Income Pilot program makes sure that artists in New York do not fall behind a defined income limit over the years. This program reportedly intends to allow the eligible recipients to plan for their future while promoting the music industry that is unfortunately equipped with a high degree of uncertainty and financial risk.

Who is eligible to apply for the Guaranteed Income Pilot program?

According to Notheis, to be eligible for the Guaranteed Income Pilot program, the applicant must reside in the Greater Rochester area of New York and be a part of the local music community. This means eligible applicants may include studio musicians, sound technicians, production engineers, and more. Furthermore, an applicant must also be at least 18 years old.

The Guaranteed Income Pilot program will choose another six participants, however, three of the spots will be for people of color. The applications online will be available only until June 3 at 11.59 p.m. By September 3, all applicants will be interviewed and if chosen, they will be notified to sign an agreement on November 1. The first batch of payments is expected to be distributed on December 1.
