El Monte, California, is offering a guaranteed income program for single mothers within city limits. This program promises to give $500 every month for a year to 125 eligible applicants who have children under 17 and meet specific financial requirements.
Program Details
According to El Mento City’s official website, applications for the program opened on March 27 and will be accepted until April 15. Those interested can apply in person, online, or by mail. The program aims to assist those who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and have verified income at or below the federal poverty line.
Recipients will receive a debit card that will be loaded with $500 every month for a year. The city will teach participants how to use the debit card, and they will be able to use it to pay for products and services at any location that accepts debit cards.
The application process requires proof of residency, school enrollment, income verification, and a government-issued ID. The recipients of this program will be selected by April 26, and the first payment will be sent on June 1, according to the city.

Eligibility Criteria
An applicant must live within the El Monte city borders, be a single female head of household with no spouse or partner, and have children under the age of 17. Applicants must also have a verifiable income that is equal to or less than the federal poverty threshold.
The program is intended for those who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and can show a need for financial assistance. According to a report by Washington Examiner, applicants must also be able to submit documents verifying school enrollment, proof of residency, proof of income, and a government-issued ID.
