Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey has issued emergency regulations concerning transition interventions for transgender children last week. In addition, Bailey has also launched an online form where allegations of malpractice in the state’s gender clinics may be reported.

According to Brown, the emergency regulations were declared by the Missouri Attorney General on March 20. A press release from Bailey’s office announced that there are concerns in the medical community that the transition procedures lack evidence of safety and success. Furthermore, these procedures are reportedly illegal, deceptive, and unethical.

Missouri Attorney General on the State’s Laws

According to Fentem, the laws of the state forbids procedures that are experimental and with no certain boundaries. With the Missouri Attorney General’s emergency regulations, the gender transition intervention must include definite disclosures that have an informed consent.

This means that patients must be aware that the Food and Drug Administration has declared that cross-sex hormones and puberty blockers can lead to blindness and brain swelling. They must also be informed that the National Board of Health and Welfare of Sweden has announced that the risks of gender transition exceeds the benefits. Lastly, the emergency regulations issued by the Missouri Attorney General forbids gender transition if healthcare providers cannot psychologically or psychiatrically assess the patient.
