The Central Arkansas Water has announced the expansion of the Low-Income Household Water Assistance Plan (LIHWAP). In this article, read and find out who are eligible for the water bill credits provided by LIHWAP for up to $2,000!

On March 16, at a press conference, the Central Arkansas Water announced the expansion of the Low-Income Household Water Assistance Plan (LIHWAP). This program reportedly will allow eligible residents to avail water and wastewater services free of charge for a year. This means that households who meet the federal requirements on low incomes will be eligible for water bill credits of up to $2,000.

According to Breen, CEO Tad Bohannon stated that the actual amount of the financial assistance will be determined by the state of Arkansas and not the Central Arkansas Water. This means that the state will consider the applying household’s size, members such as children and the elderly, and annual expenses on water and wastewater services. All customers of the Central Arkansas Water in the 18 communities it serves can apply.

Who is eligible for the water bill credits?

According to Price, to be eligible for the water bill credits provided by the LIHWAP expansion, a Central Arkansas Water customer must have a residential water or wastewater services under their name. They must also be a United States citizen or a qualified immigrant whose income is at or below the requirements of the LIHWAP. Otherwise, they must live in a household that receives any of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), or Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) benefits.
