Newsbreak: Palm Springs Offers $800 Monthly Cash to Eligible Residents for 18 Months Amid Pandemic

In the middle of next month, Americans will have the opportunity to apply for $800 in cash each month for a year and a half. This pilot guaranteed income program is being funded by a $500,000 commitment from the Palm Springs City Council in California. Nonprofit organizations Queer Works and DAP Health are administering the program.

Residents who meet certain requirements will be eligible to apply for the program starting on March 15. According to a report by The US Sun on February 28, 2023, to qualify, the applicant’s income must not exceed 30% of the median income of Riverside County. Additionally, applicants must be clients of either DAP Health or Queer Works, or must enroll with one of these organizations by March 14. They must also live and work at least part-time in Palm Springs or spend most of their day in the area.

Only 30 individuals will be selected to participate in the pilot program, and after the applications are submitted, participants will be randomly chosen. The first round of payments, which will total $800 per month, will be sent to the selected recipients on May 15.

To receive enrollment alerts, interested individuals can fill out a form online. The application window will close on March 25, and participants will be notified of their selections on March 30. This guaranteed income program is expected to help people who are struggling financially due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other economic challenges.
