Newsbreak in Massachusetts: Nurse Accused of Killing Three Kids and Attempting Suicide

Lindsay Clancy is facing charges of murder in the deaths of her three children and attempted suicide, according to prosecutors.

During a call with her husband and psychologist, she heard a man tell her to kill her kids as her “last chance”. The 32-year-old nurse allegedly strangled her children, then cut her wrists and neck.

District Attorney Tim Cruz of Plymouth County stated that she jumped out of a window at her family’s residence on Summer Street, according to ABC 7 Chicago on February 4, 2023.

Clancy appeared in court via Zoom from her hospital bed, wearing a neck brace and mask. She’s paralyzed from the waist down, according to her lawyer.

Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Sprague said that her husband found her after her suicide attempt and asked where the kids were, to which she replied “In the basement”.

Her husband, Patrick Clancy, found their children strangled with exercise bands in the basement. Prosecutors presented evidence that she premeditated the murder, sending her husband away and timing her actions. Sprague stated that she created the situation, not took advantage of it.

Reddington, the lawyer, cites multiple medications, dosage changes and recent psychiatric help for suicidal thoughts, but the prosecution denies postpartum depression diagnosis. He calls the case “tragic” and highlights the “flawed” mental health system with ignored postpartum depression.

The judge ruled that Clancy has no monetary bail, will receive physical and mental health treatments, and can be moved to other facilities. She faces charges for murder, assault/battery with a deadly weapon, and strangulation. Her next court appearance is May 2.

Patrick Clancy forgave his wife and urged others to do the same in a Jan 28 statement on a GoFundMe page. He described her as loving and caring towards everyone, including family and patients, and wished for her to find peace, reported NBC News on January 29, 2023.
