Hiring A Hitman
According to Lenthang, in May 2016, while Musbach’s criminal case was pending, he started browsing a murder-for-hire site on the dark web. After being assured by the site’s administrator that the age of the target was not a problem, Musbach reportedly hired a hitman for around $20,000 in bitcoin. However, when Musbach was urged to add another $5,000 to secure the kill, he allegedly decided to cancel and asked for his $20,000 to be refunded. The site’s administrator then revealed that the site was a scam and threatened to expose Musbach’s information to the authorities.
In 2020, during Musbach’s indictment, prosecutors stated that the Department of Homeland Security received messages from an informant. These messages include the agreement on killing between Musbach and the fake website. On February 2, Musbach pleaded guilty to hiring a hitman to murder the victim. Musbach will now face charges of up to 10 years in prison once he is sentenced on June 13.
