Local News in Georgia: High School Teacher Got Hospitalized After After Brutally Attacked By A Student

Officials in Rockdale County, Georgia, are looking into a now-viral video after a student attacked a teacher, resulting in the hospitalization of the veteran teacher.

The incident was captured on video on January 26 inside a classroom at Heritage High School. The teacher was identified as English Language Arts teacher Tiwana Turner in a GoFundMe. Turner was the victim of a physical assault after a student punched her after slamming the door of the classroom in her face.

The 27-year-old teacher was repeatedly punched in the hallway as the assault went on, forcing her to the ground and requiring hospitalization. She sustained knee and leg injuries, including a broken leg, according to the GoFundMe account, and is unable to walk as a result.

According to the report, Turner will require “extensive rehabilitation and therapy” during her recovery, and she won’t be able to work “anytime soon.”

Turner, according to the GoFundMe, was filling in for a colleague who was absent that day in another class. She was physically attacked by a student after she tried to “redirect the off-task behavior” of the student.

According to an article published by Fox News in February 02, 2023, the ninth-grader has been charged with aggravated battery.

The video incensed Georgia Federation of Teachers President Verdaillia Turner, who told Fox 5 Atlanta that incidents like that directly contribute to the nationwide teacher shortage.

There is no justification for children who enter our school every day and cause chaos so that other students cannot learn; students are out of control.
