Recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are set to receive their next payment worth $914 on February 1st. SSI payments from the Social Security Administration (SSA) are intended to help elderly, blind, and disabled people who have little or no income of their own. The money allows them to afford basic everyday items and goods, including food and shelter, according to a report by the Washington Examiner on January 6, 2023.
SSI recipients will receive payment on February 1st due to receiving two payments in December 2022. Eligible couples and essential persons will also receive a payment from the SSA on February 1st, with couples receiving $1,371 and essential persons receiving $458, according to the Washington Examiner.
The SSI payments for 2023 will be slightly higher than last year due to a cost of living adjustment, increasing 8.7% from $841 in 2022. Payments are typically given on the first of the month, but if it falls on a weekend or holiday, it will be given on the last business day of the previous month. Payments will be issued 12 times a year.
Based on the SSA’s 2023 schedule, the SSA will provide double payments to recipients in the months of March, June, September, and December this year due to the following months beginning on a weekend or a holiday.
