Residents of Alexandria, Virginia will receive $500 in monthly payments for two years as part of the Recurring Income for Success and Equity program. The payments, which do not have any restrictions on their use, will go to approximately 170 eligible residents, according an article published by WUSA9 on October 22, 2022.
Mayor Justin Wilson stated that the city is giving financial assistance to individuals and families to allow them to choose how to address their needs according to The Sun on an article published on January 4, 2023. The goal of the program is to support residents financially and to develop the city’s cash assistance programs.
On December 13, all recipients were chosen randomly from a group of applicants. The application period was open from October 31 to November 9. To be eligible to apply, city residents had to have an income that was 50% or less of Alexandria’s median income, which varies depending on the size of the household.
To be eligible, a single person had to make less than $4,154 per month, or a yearly income of $49,890. For a two-person household, the monthly and annual income limits were $4,746 and $56,950, respectively, according to The Sun. 170 residents will be chosen to receive the $500 monthly payments, which will be distributed in February.
