$540 in compensation offered for those affected by power outages in New York state: Get compensated for your losses!

New York State is offering compensation to individuals who experienced prolonged power outages during a recent snowstorm.

Those affected by the outages, which affected hundreds of thousands of Americans, can claim up to $540 to cover damages, according to a published report by The US Sun on January 3, 2023. In order to be eligible for the compensation, power must have been lost for 72 hours or more consecutively, and proof of loss must be provided within 14 days of the outage.

The deadline to apply for compensation is January 10, and claims can be filed by phone, email, online, or mail through the National Grid website or the New York State Electric & Gas Company. A list of lost food can be submitted for a maximum claim of $235, but proof of loss allows for a claim of $540, according to the same report in The US Sun.

In addition to the compensation, checks worth up to $1,050 are being sent to millions of Americans, and the clean energy initiative offers a tax credit worth up to $8,000.

Based on the published report by CNN on December 27, 2022, the recent snowstorm also caused over 3,000 flight cancellations and left many separated from their luggage for almost a week. Buffalo saw a record-breaking 100 inches of snowfall.
