Starting next year, frequent users of Florida’s toll roads can anticipate receiving some of their money back.
A new toll relief program that state of Florida recently set aside $500 million was approved this month. It takes effect on Sunday based on the article posted by WFTV9 on August 22, 2022.
Drivers of two-axle vehicles participating in the program will get a 50% credit on their account for every 35 toll transactions they make in a month. This program applies to all toll roads in the state which accept electronic payment through a transponder such as SunPass or E-Pass.
With a focus on employees who have long commutes to and from work, state officials admit that the program is intended to assist Floridians with ongoing inflation and rising gas prices in the country.
Those who don’t live in Florida permanently and have a transponder in their car are eligible for the program. Unfortunately, motorcycles and company vehicles are not covered.
The program is set to start on January 1, 2023, and until December 31, 2023. It will save an average customer worth $400 and benefit an estimated 1.9 million drivers in and outside Florida.
