There are currently a large number of individuals in the state of California who are still waiting to receive their middle class tax refund.
According to an article published by CBS News on December 27, 2022, around 3 million people in California have not yet received the funds that they are qualified to as part of their tax refund.
As shown on the data on Franchise Tax Board’s website as of December 16, 2022, around 28 million people have receive “inflation relief” checks, also known as Middle Class Tax Refund.
As stated in an article by KTLA published on July 29, 2022, these checks ranges from $200 to $1,050, depending on the person’s income, filing status and number of dependents.
This initiative has been developed because the Governor of California, Gavin Newsom, signed a state budget in June that included $9.5 billion in payments for these checks.
The Franchise Tax Board, which is responsible for managing tax payments in California, has reported that most of the payments for the “inflation relief” checks have already been sent.
So far, about 7 million direct deposits and 8 million debit cards have been issued, totaling approximately $8 billion out of the total amount of $9.5 billion that has been allotted for these payments. This means that the majority of the payments have been sent, but there are still some that have not yet been issued.
For people who did not file their taxes electronically, they should check their mail for the remaining “inflation relief” credits. These credits will come in the form of debit cards and will be mailed out between now and January 14.
