On December 21, Judge Merrill Spahn found 30-year-old Danielle Bewley guilty of first-degree murder in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
The murder occurred on Valentine’s Day 2021 at a PNC Bank in Strasburg, Pennsylvania, and the victim was 27-year-old Mitchell Bewley.
According to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office, Mitchell Bewley suffered five gunshot wounds to the torso, all of which had the potential to be the fatal shot.
According to a report by True Crime Daily on December 23, 2022, prosecutors argued that Danielle Bewley shot and killed her husband after luring him to the bank. Assistant District Attorney Christine Wilson stated that it was “specific premeditation” and that Danielle Bewley was “lying in wait for the victim to get there.” However, Danielle Bewley’s attorney argued that she shot her husband in self-defense. After the shooting, Danielle Bewley reportedly Face-Timed a friend, showed them the gun, and said, “He got what he deserved.”
The Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office did not specify a date for Danielle Bewley’s sentencing. It is worth noting that the trial was a bench trial, meaning it was decided by a judge rather than a jury. The trial lasted five days.
Based on the published report by Lancaster Online on December 21,2022, after the shooting, Danielle Bewley returned to her home in Quarryville and engaged in a standoff with police. She was eventually taken into custody by the Pennsylvania State Police Special Emergency Response Team and transported to a local hospital. Strasburg Police Department officers were dispatched to the PNC Bank on North Decatur Street for reports of shots fired and found Mitchell Bewley deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.
