On December 30, recipients of Supplemental Security Income, also known as SSI, will receive a $914 payment, a second payment for this month.
Since the first day of January falls on New Year’s Day, SSI recipients will receive two payments this month. In order to ensure that beneficiaries receive the check by the first of the month, the SSA (Social Security Administration) issues check each month on the business day before months that begin on a weekend or holiday (Notheis, 2022).
According to an article published by Notheis (2022), the payment due this month will be greater than the payment made to SSI recipients on December 1, when $841 was distributed to its recipients. As a result, the upcoming payment will be 8.7% larger because the SSA is implementing a cost-of-living adjustment to monthly benefits, which will be equivalent to a two-month payment of $1,755.
This month’s second payment of $458 will be given to those who live with someone receiving SSI and provide the necessary care. Additionally, each eligible couple will receive two payments totaling $1,261.
Since there won’t be a payment for SSI recipients in January of next year, the payment on December 30 will be the first of the 2023 payments. To ensure that recipients receive one payment each month, SSA issues a total of 12 SSI payments annually.
For those months falling on a weekend or a holiday in 2023, recipients will receive two payments in the months of April, June, September, and December.
