Last month in a North Las Vegas neighborhood, a woman used self-defense by shooting and killing an alleged carjacker attempting to steal her car, according to a report released by North Las Vegas police this week.
On November 19, the victim and her friend stopped in the vicinity of another companion’s residence while they were waiting to enter and celebrate Thanksgiving dinner in advance.
As reported by FOX 5 Las Vegas, the two to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police that a car had parked before them, and then two or three men exited the vehicle and took the woman out of the driver’s seat and her friend out of the passenger seat. One of the suspects entered the car but was unable to drive it away since it was a push-to-start.
Upon realizing that the suspect had put the firearm in his lap while trying to start the car, the victim grabbed it and fled, urging her friend to do the same. However, the suspect managed to stop her and held her back. As a result, she spun around and shot the suspect in the head, police reported.
While a second suspect opened fire on her, the woman sought safety in the side yard of a house after running away. The second suspect managed to escape prior to the police showing up, and when they did, they discovered the shot suspect on the ground, dead and bleeding from his head.
The woman was arrested and later discharged without charges, as it was decided that she had acted in self-defense.
A suspect was identified as Jaylin Morrison arrested less than two weeks later after being identified on surveillance footage. The suspect was an associate of the suspect who was shot.
According to police, he was charged with kidnapping, conspiracy to commit robbery, attempted robbery with a deadly weapon, burglary with a deadly weapon, and attempted grand larceny. His bail was set at $50,000.
