Officials’ Statements on the Program
DTA Acting Commissioner Mary Sheehan says the program aims to bring economic support into the food system, farmers, and employees of Massachusetts. This also aims to further develop the Food Security Infrastructure Grant Program and introduce additional 100 Healthy Incentives Program vendors. Furthermore, DTA endeavors to encourage more than 600,000 SNAP households to buy food in their communities, says Secretary of Health and Human Services Marylou Sudders.
According to Paña, the program was applauded by the Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources, John Lebeaux. This was after the farmers and markets had the opportunity to receive SNAP payments. By being able to do this, the program can introduce new customers to local farms. An increase in access to local foods for the residents of Massachusetts will also be possible.
