CVS Kansas City has promised to hire more staff to prevent further work stoppages by pharmacists. The pharmacists’ concerns stem from heavy workloads and understaffing, which have made it challenging for them to even take bathroom breaks. These issues have been growing as pharmacists have taken on additional duties, including administering flu and COVID-19 vaccines. The root problem, according to the AP News, is insufficient funding for adequate staffing.
Last week, pharmacists in several CVS Kansas City pharmacies went on strike, demanding more staff rather than higher pay or more time off. CVS spokesperson Amy Thibault emphasized the company’s commitment to resolving the concerns to maintain the quality of patient care. Chief Pharmacy Officer Prem Shah issued an apology for the delay in addressing the issues and pledged to stay in Kansas City until they are resolved.
