New Prostate Cancer Treatment: Focal Therapy’s Precision and Effectiveness

In September, during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, CBS New York featured a new prostate cancer treatment. According to CBS News, Barry Lipsky, a 69-year-old from Long Island, found out he had prostate cancer after regular PSA tests. The usual treatment is surgery followed by radiation. However, Dr. Michael Schwartz, Chief of Urology at Northwell Health, suggested a new prostate cancer treatment called focal therapy.

The new prostate cancer treatment called Focal therapy uses advanced imaging tools to precisely locate the cancer, and then it’s frozen using a technique called cryoablation. This freezing treatment targets only the cancer, leaving the rest of the prostate unharmed.
