Deadline Approaches for Filing Claims: Funds Will Be Redirected After September 22

According to The U.S. Sun, San Diego County officials are alerting residents to check if they are owed part of over $867,000 in unclaimed funds before the September 22 deadline. Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister announced that the county has found thousands of dollars in unclaimed money with amounts ranging from $15 to $25,118.40. These funds often come from undelivered checks overpaid taxes or payments for county services. If the money is not claimed by the deadline it will be transferred to the county’s general fund, and residents will lose the chance to recover it.

To claim these funds residents can visit an online list provided by the Treasurer-Tax Collector’s office or go to branch offices in Chula Vista, San Marcos, and Santee. People who think they might be owed money are encouraged to file a claim through the website by emailing [email protected], or by calling 1-877-829-4732. Many of these unclaimed funds are property tax refunds that were never received due to issues like incorrect addresses or undelivered mail.

St. Lucie County Offers Over $66,000 in Unclaimed Checks: Residents Encouraged to Verify Eligibility

In addition to the San Diego County effort St. Lucie County in Florida is also handling over $66,000 in unclaimed checks, with amounts ranging from $14 to $4,614. Clerk and Comptroller Michelle R. Miller is urging residents to check if they are eligible for these funds by visiting the Clerk’s website. This initiative shows the wider opportunities for people to recover unclaimed money, including through new bank accounts or financial assistance programs.
