Cash App Users May Qualify for $2,500 from $15 Million Settlement
Claims Available for Data Breach Losses and Fraudulent Transactions
According to The US Sun, if you use Cash App and are one of the 50 million Americans affected you could be eligible for a payment from a $15 million settlement due to recent data breaches. The settlement arises from a class action lawsuit accusing Cash App of failing to protect users’ data properly. The lawsuit claims that Cash App had two major data breaches between 2022 and 2023. The first breach involved an employee who accessed Cash App Investing accounts without permission. The second breach saw a third party using recycled phone numbers to gain unauthorized access. These breaches exposed sensitive personal information and led to fraudulent transactions for some users.
To qualify for a payment from this settlement you must meet certain criteria. If your account information was compromised or if you experienced fraudulent transactions between August 23, 2018, and August 20, 2024 you may be eligible. Cash App has denied any wrongdoing but has agreed to pay $15 million to resolve the lawsuit. Class members can claim up to $2,500 for documented losses resulting from the breaches. This includes costs for credit issues, bank fees, travel expenses and up to three hours of lost time compensated at $25 per hour. If you can produce adequate documentation and suffered fraudulent transactions you can be eligible for further compensation. You will require documentation including invoices, credit reports, account statements, receipts, and police reports, in order to submit a claim. Users of Cash App both past and present are eligible to file claims. Claims must be submitted by November 18th.

Other Major Settlements: Visa and Mastercard Face $5.6 Billion Lawsuit
In addition to this settlement there are other ongoing class action lawsuits. For instance Visa and Mastercard are involved in a separate settlement worth $5.6 billion over alleged excessive fees. The deadline for claims in that case is August 30. Class action lawsuits allow groups of Americans with similar complaints to take legal action together. Settlements often provide payments to affected individuals and resolve disputes without further litigation.
