New York Families to Receive Additional Child Credit Payments in 2023

Approximately one million families who received at least $100 from the Empire State Child Credit in 2023 will be contacted. To qualify, families must have filed their state income tax return by April 15, 2024, or had an extension. The additional payment varies based on income, ranging from 25 percent to 100 percent of last year’s credit with higher amounts going to families with lower incomes.

While some parents, like Laodice Galeas, view this payment as a valuable help such as Madelyn Dwyer, believe it’s insufficient to cover all their needs. There are also calls for reducing prices instead of increasing financial aid. Families can use state-provided tools to estimate their payment amount based on their 2023 tax returns.
