Ohio’s sales-tax holiday started this week and will end at 11:59 p.m. on August 8. During this time shoppers can buy most items for $500 or less without paying sales tax. This includes anything you can touch, move, or eat. If you shop online and you can also get the tax break if you order during the holiday. Shipping and handling costs are tax-free as long as you order within the holiday period, according to the report of Dispatch.

Tips and Tricks for a Successful Tax-Free Holiday

Some items are not included in the tax-free holiday. Watercraft, motor vehicles, and anything over $500 are not eligible. Cigarettes, alcoholic drinks, tobacco, vaping products, and items with marijuana are also excluded. Sales tax will still apply to dine-in meals at restaurants but alcohol and soft drinks are not covered by the holiday.

If you are using layaway for items under $500, they are also tax-free during the holiday. You can use coupons and discounts to lower the price and still get the tax break. Refunds and exchanges are easy during the holiday if you return an item bought during the holiday, you won’t be charged tax on an exchange. If you were mistakenly charged tax and you can get a refund by showing your receipt.
