2023: Unusual Calendar Dates Affect SSI Payments – 2 Payments in August, 2 Months in November, and More

Due to unusual calendar dates, SSI recipients will receive two payments in August and both November and December’s payments within 30 days.

When to Expect Your Benefits Due to Unusual Calendar Dates

In August, people who get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will see two payments due to the way dates fall on weekends and holidays. SSI payments are usually given on the first day of the month. This year, August 1 was a Thursday so the payment was made early. To adjust for weekends, September’s payment will come early on August 30 because September 1 is a Sunday, according to the report of The Hill.

How Social Security Payments Will Be Distributed in November

This is similar to what happened earlier this year when June 1 was a Saturday. People got payments in May but none in June and so it felt like they got two payments in May and missed one in June. In November, SSI recipients will get both November and December’s payments in a 30-day period. Although the timing is unusual and it doesn’t change the total amount of benefits received by the end of the year.

For those who receive regular Social Security benefits, the payment schedule for August and September won’t be affected. Payments that normally come on the 3rd of each month were given early this month because the 3rd was a Saturday. In November, payments will be given on November 1 instead of November 3 to adjust for the weekend. These changes ensure that everyone gets their full benefits by the end of the year.
