New York Governor Kathy Hochul Announces $350 Million Boost for Families
One Million Families to Receive Checks by End of August
New York Governor Kathy Hochul has revealed a major financial boost for families in the state, with $350 million allocated for those with moderate and low incomes. By the end of August, one million families will receive checks in the mail. The amount they get will depend on the number of children they have and their income level. Families who received the Empire State Child Tax Credit in 2023 and filed their taxes on time will automatically receive these payments which range from $330 per child to $1,000 for families with several children.

The payments will be distributed without requiring any additional paperwork. Governor Hochul clarified that families will receive the money directly, eliminating the need for extra forms or applications. This initiative is designed to provide fast assistance with the payment amount determined by a percentage of last year’s Child Tax Credit and the family’s income level.
The news has been well-received, particularly among those who have struggled financially. Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, a longtime advocate for family support expressed how important this aid is. Lisa Chin, a Mount Vernon mother and student with two young children shared that the extra funds will significantly ease her family’s financial strain while she continues her education, according to the report of CBS News.
