Carvin Software has agreed to a settlement in a class action lawsuit following a significant data breach that impacted over 356,000 individuals from February 22 to March 9, 2023. The breach exposed sensitive data, including names, social security numbers, and financial information, leading to concerns about potential identity theft and fraud. While the company denies any wrongdoing and it will provide $825,000 to settle the claims with affected individuals eligible for up to $8,500 in compensation along with identity theft and credit monitoring services.

Carvin Software Data Breach Compensation Available

Individuals who can demonstrate financial losses due to the breach are eligible to claim up to $8,500. Those who lost time dealing with the breach can receive up to $80 for up to four hours of lost time. Claims need to be filed by August 30, 2024. A final approval hearing for the settlement is set for September 25, 2024, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona. Anyone wishing to opt out or challenge the settlement must do so by August 16, 2024.

Though Carvin Software maintains it did nothing wrong and this settlement is designed to assist those affected and address the risks associated with the exposed personal data. The company opted to settle to avoid the expense and unpredictability of prolonged legal proceedings, according to the report of The US Sun.
