According to Front Office Sports, the city of Anaheim and the Angels baseball team have reached a settlement ending a long and complicated dispute. This dispute included an FBI investigation and corruption charges against a former mayor. As part of the 2.75 million settlement Anaheim will pay the Angels $2.75 million. The city believes it will earn this money back through revenues from stadium ticket sales, parking fees, and special events over the next few years. Additionally, the Angels have agreed to allow Anaheim to build a fire station on the stadium property. The agreement was officially signed last Thursday, according to The Orange County Register. “This is a fair settlement for our city,” stated Anaheim Mayor Ashleigh Aitken. “It allows both sides to move forward without needless expense and distraction.”
The trouble began in 2022 when the FBI discovered that then-mayor Harry Sidhu had shared confidential information with the Angels. He did this to help them get better terms in a deal to buy the stadium site from the city. When this news became public, the deal fell apart. According to the original terms, Anaheim was supposed to pay team owner Arte Moreno $5 million plus legal fees if the deal failed. As the city refused to pay this sum negotiations for a settlement began. In 2023 Sidhu entered a guilty plea to multiple severe federal accusations including as wire fraud, obstruction of justice and making false representations to federal authorities. December is when he will be sentenced. Crucially, no proof of wrongdoing by the Angels has been discovered by investigators.

$2.75 Million Settlement Includes New Fire Station
Furthermore, the new agreement aims to put an end to this period of legal battles and negative attention. Both the city and the team are eager to move forward. Anaheim’s leaders believe that the 2.75 million settlement will benefit the city in the long run by generating revenue and improving public safety with the new fire station. Mayor Aitken expressed optimism about the future emphasizing that the settlement will save the city from further legal costs and distractions. This resolution allows both Anaheim and the Angels to focus on what lies ahead rather than dwelling on past conflicts.
