According to KRQE News, in New Mexico the Human Services Department (HSD) has implemented a new initiative to combat food insecurity among vulnerable populations. They have introduced an additional $135 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits specifically for adults over 60 and individuals with disabilities enrolled in SNAP. This program aims to provide crucial food support to 11,834 eligible recipients throughout June. Collaborating with the Aging and Long-Term Services Department (ALTSD) HSD is ensuring that these funds from the state’s general fund directly address urgent nutritional needs and help alleviate hunger among those who are most at risk.

Eligible recipients who received the SNAP State Supplement in February of this year will automatically receive the extra $135 on their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards. This streamlined process ensures that beneficiaries do not need to take any additional steps to receive the supplemental assistance.
