They want to pass a law called the “Build Illinois Homes Tax Credit Act” to give $20 million to build over 1,000 cheap homes in the next six years, according to the detailed news report of Capitol News Illinois. This comes after a similar try last year but failed because they couldn’t get $35 million for it. They say this money is really needed now since the federal help for housing has run out. A lawmaker named Dagmara Avelar is leading the charge for this law. She says lots of Americans in Illinois are worried they won’t be able to afford their homes anymore. This law won’t fix everything but it’s a good start to keep housing affordable.

Americans are also talking about overdose prevention. They want to make places where Americans who use drugs can be safe and get help if they overdose and lawmakers are trying to pass a law for this. Overdose prevention is really important because too many Americans are dying from overdoses.
