San Marcos City Council Approves Tax Credit Plan for Affordable Housing
Roers San Marcos Multifamily Project Set to Address Housing Needs for Low-Income Residents
The San Marcos City Council recently said yes to a plan to get tax credits for building affordable housing. They want to help low-income people in the area find places to live. This project, called Roers San Marcos Multifamily, will be on 2409 S. Old Bastrop Hwy. It will have 348 apartments in 15 buildings, offering one, two and three bedroom homes for people who make 60% or less of what most people in the area earn.
In addition to providing affordable housing options, Roers San Marcos Multifamily plans to include various amenities for residents. These amenities include a community clubhouse, pool, fitness center, and two children’s playscapes. Moreover, the development intends to offer shuttle services at least three days a week and monthly transportation to community events. Notably, the project does not seek a tax break for local real estate taxes, as stated in agenda documents presented to the City Council.
San Marcos City Council Member Expresses Gratitude for Affordable Housing Initiative
Council member Matthew Mendoza thanked the developers for picking the spot for the apartments and said it is great to have affordable housing on this side of town because it helps the community. Approving the resolution is a big move toward helping low income people find homes in San Marcos and making sure everyone has a chance to live in a good place.
