Jackson County has unveiled its Senior Property Tax Credit Program, aimed at assisting eligible residents in managing their property tax payments. Authorized by Senate Bill 190, this initiative freezes the property tax bill for qualifying individuals, providing much-needed financial relief. County Executive Frank White, Jr. emphasized the program’s significance in enhancing the well-being of senior residents, highlighting its role in offering stability and support. Applications for the program are now open, with approved applicants set to benefit from the tax credit starting in 2025.

The eligibility criteria for the program are established by state law and include requirements such as being eligible for Social Security retirement benefits and meeting specific property ownership guidelines. Participants can only claim one primary residence, and the property’s market value must not exceed $550,000, as per Jackson County Legislature’s regulations. To apply, residents must submit their applications and supporting documents by December 31 each year, with renewal applications due annually by August 31. Applications are available online and at designated Collection Department locations within the county.
